So through a series of unfortunate coincidences, I find myself with no bands at all at the moment.

I'm interested in starting a new band or joining an existing one - I play bass and drums, and sometimes some synths and noise machines.
I have all my own gear, transportation, and I'm reliable and pretty on time. I've been playing music for over 10 years now and have played in successful bands around Halifax, toured the Maritimes and Ontario.

When asked what my favorite band is, I can only give the standard, ultra-cliche hipster answer, but I really do love a huge range of music, from jazz to metal to noise. Some of my musical influences would include Fugazi, the Jesus Lizard, Miles Davis, Caribou, Mogwai, Russian Circles, Captain Beefheart, Turing Machine, Rockets Red Glare, Sun Ra, King Crimson, and June of 44.

I'm sure people are always looking for drummers and bassists, so please do get in touch. I'm pretty open to almost any genre, but whatever it is it should be open, creative, original, and at least somewhat theoretically technical (I'm not really into "what chord is that? Uh, 6th fret?" or "how does your bass drum pattern go? Uh, it's like the dum-pish, dum dum-pish one" anymore). Not really interested in 4/4 and 3 chord rock, but anything else I'm wide open.

My french sucks, so please don't make me move to Montreal. Let's make a great band.

Tomcat Combat is officially on long term hiatus. It was a great run and I'm pretty proud of everything we did (full length, tons of shows with a huge range of bands - way too many to mention). Hopefully someone (maybe this new band?) can carry the torch of great Halifax instrumental rock. I'll never forget playing one of our earliest shows with the Audiens, just as they were breaking up!

NO!! Our past couple of attempts to bring you guys down to Moncton were fruitless....this is unfair!

But my instrumental rock band, Morse Code Alphabet, is pretty much in the same boat.

Good luck finding something, dude... if you ever consider moving to Moncton, we might have projects for ya :)

i don't mean to be a jack ass but aren't most Tomcat Combat songs in 4/4 time? I don't recall hearing any crazy time signatures when I heard you guys.

Yeah but they never used any A sharps, so it's cool.

wanna try out my band River Nihil for the bass? We are new but have an epic metal, but dymnamic style... I dont have any music of ours up, but the writing core (me and the two guitarists) used to do this: http://www.myspace.com/janusfaced so its very much along that same spirit except tuned lower.

I would say about half the songs were in 4/4; the other half generally contained triplet or 12/8 passages (though not from every instrument at once), or complex meter - one song, Ponies on Ice, was a series of repeating measures of 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 3/4, 6/4, 3/4, 5/4, with measures added or removed. You could also count some of the measures as 7/4. It was also one of the popiest songs, and that was the idea - you shouldn't be able to tell if a song is in a complex meter or not. Mission accomplished apparently! While I'm sure you had a different perspective from the audience, believe me as one of the musicians on stage actually playing the songs that there was plenty of counting going on - probably at points where I was sticking my tounge out and/or staring at the drummer (while trying to ignore whoever was playing in a different time sig!)

I'm always up for anything! That sounds cool, drop me a PM and we'll set something up.
