I bet everyone has a few? HOw come so many people get trapped in this city? Well, fuck it, I'm going to leave - and can anybody tell me why I shouldn't? Why don't you?

Yeah, there's a drunken topic!

Seriously though, I think I'm going to put in my two-weeks sometime within the week, and hitch/hop West. Why not?

(Yeah, that's right, I make life-decsions based on popular Locals opinion)

This is an edit due to the souring of my optimism about moving out of my favorite city.

That being said, I have no advice.

I am very happy to call Halifax my home :)

I've met heaps of great people, my family are here, it's clean, I love my work, there's actually lots to do, you can drive for a short or long distance and find yourself in beautiful places, there's lots of reasons I love Halifax. There's always room for improvement in any place - I could certainly list a lot of things I'd like to see changed/added as well, but overall - she's alright by me!

Having said that - I'm a big advocator of travel and living in different places!

I voted No, even though I am the biggest Hali booster there is.

Dude, you need to travel, starve, see sights, get your rough edges taken off and your world view broadened, then come home. Halifax is a great place to live, to have a home, to be based out of, but you need a better basis for comparison than you have now.

that is exactly what I plan on doing. I just want to leave for a while and see other places but I know I'll always come back.

I was underemployed in Halifax for about eight years ... it was an amazing time, and I had a blast, and it's a beautiful place to live ... but there are too many smart people sharing too few dollars, and it was time for us to start thinking about raising a family, so when opportunity knocked we made the jump to Montreal.

I do love Halifax -- we're looking forward to going there for a couple of days next weekend -- but it is in many ways an insular little city. Montrealers are less guarded when they hear that you're from away than Haligonians are ... if anything, anglo Montrealers seem happier to do business with a rural Nova Scotian than a fast-talking bilingual kid from NDG ... I never once felt that my hometown gave me any sort of business advantage in Halifax.

If you've never lived elsewhere -- no matter where you live -- you owe it to yourself to get the hell out and see what happens. Even if you have, if you're feeling like it's time to leave Halifax, then it probably is.

Noon on Saturday the 24th, though, I hope to be eating clams'n'chips at John's Lunch .. yum ...

My mother's the only big reason why I stay in Halifax. Yes, she doesn't live here, but she's only a 4 hour drive away and she visits me whenever she comes down to visit her parents on the south shore. Montreal's a definite possibility in the next couple years. I'd love to see Vancouver, but I'd see my mom maybe once every few years if I moved that far. I barely see her enough when I'm just in the next province over.

I think it has a lot to do with what you want to do.

I'm a HUGE Hali promoter (my nickname at fat camp was Halifax - fuck I was so cool back then 8) 8) ).

However, I'm with Waye - go and see the world for a while.

My best appreciation of Halifax came when I wasn't here.

Ha!

Halifax!

In comparison to where I live (Sydney/ Cape Breton) Halifax is like fucking a golden city. There is always lots of work to be had and oodles of cool people to hang out with.

Having said that I will be selling my ass in the near future to the Petroleum Tar Sand God to finance my Education Degree.

The only reason I'd move from Halifax if I were you is to work and or broaden your scope on life.

Montreal is not the mythical place most people from here seem to think it is.
